The online CBT course was created by translating the

content from the National Institute of Drug Abuse therapy

manual A cognitive behavioral approach: Treating cocaine

addiction (Carroll, 1998) into a series of interactive, mediarich,

Web-based modules for clinician training. Each of the

eight topics in the CBT manual resulted in a stand-alone,

problem-focused module (e.g., Problem Solving,” “Coping

with Craving,” “Refusal Skills) designed to provide counselors

with the knowledge and skills required to successfully

implement that set of CBTstrategies and/or techniques in their

clinical practice. Each module or tooluses a variety of

vignettes, video role-plays, graphics, and animated sequences

to promote active engagement with the material. The course

is currently available at www.nidatoolbox.org and available

for free Continuing Education credit through the Addiction

Technology Transfer Centers' searchable database of distance

learning courses (www.addictioned.org)
